Prostatitis in men

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate (prostate), an organ that produces a fluid secretion that is part of semen.Pathology sometimes causes severe pain and potency problems.It is reasonable to begin treatment for prostatitis as soon as it is diagnosed.

Symptom

Prostatitis usually affects men between the ages of 25 and 50. The condition is very common.It affects about one-third to one-half of all men on the planet.The problem has many symptoms:

Symptoms of prostatitis
  • a man feels discomfort and pain when urinating;
  • urine flows slowly, in a thin stream, you have to express it;
  • At night and at other times of the day, there is often a feeling of needing to go to the toilet.I couldn't help but feel that not all the urine had left the bladder;
  • cloudy urine, mixed with blood;
  • pain in the lower abdomen, back, groin and perineum (between the scrotum and anus);
  • also haunted by pain and discomfort in the testicles and penis;
  • ejaculation accompanied by pain;

Symptoms of prostatitis often appear similar to those of a cold (low temperature, fever).They are characteristic of a bacterial pathology (see more about it below).

Reason

Prostatitis occurs more often in men who have had the condition before.The problem is due to:

  • bladder and urethral infections;
  • HIV and other diseases that men contract during sex;
  • injury to the pelvic area - falling from a bicycle or horse;

A urethral catheter to drain urine from the bladder causes prostatitis in men.

Pathology sometimes appears after a prostate biopsy, when a sample of its tissue is taken for analysis.After this procedure, symptoms of prostatitis are rarely observed in men.

complications

Due to prostatitis, it can:

    Chronic nonbacterial prostatitis
  • epididymitis (inflammation of the epididymis);
  • Sperm count decreases significantly and infertility occurs;
  • An abscess (a cavity filled with pus) appears.

Many studies by scientists have not found a direct link between prostatitis and prostate cancer.

Types of prostatitis

There are 5 main types of prostatitis: chronic and acute non-bacterial, chronic and acute bacterial, asymptomatic.

  • No chronic bacteria(also known as chronic pelvic pain syndrome).Most common (more than 90% of all patients suffer from it).Signs of prostatitis are unstable, come and go.No pathogens were found in the body.Diagnosis is made if for at least 3 months a man has had pain in the pelvic area, discomfort during urination and the above symptoms.The exact cause of the disease is unknown but may be due to:
    • nerve problems (neuropathy);
    • stimulates the prostate, causing poor urine flow from the bladder;
    • problems with pelvic floor muscles (dyskinesia);
    • atypical, still unknown to science, virus, bacteria.
  • Acute non-bacterial.Accompanied by chronic pain in the pelvic area and continuous problems with urination.
  • Acute infection.The most serious type of disease.Occurs infrequently.Born by:
    • E. coli, staphylococcus and other bacteria;
    • venereal diseases (chlamydia, gonorrhea);
    • Candida fungus.
    Prostate diagnosis

    Symptoms increase rapidly.Discomfort in the pelvic area accompanied by genital pain, fever, nausea and burning pain when urinating.Acute bacterial prostatitis can cause serious, life-threatening complications such as abscesses, inability to urinate, and low blood pressure.

  • Chronic infection.The pathology may not appear for several years.Symptoms are similar to those of acute bacterial infection, but are not as severe.
  • No symptoms.Discovered by accident.No symptoms.Ultrasound showed signs of inflammation and blood tests showed increased levels of prostate-specific antigen.

Diagnose

Diagnosis is made using:

  • digital rectal exam;
  • Urine analysis.Essential to determine if there is an infection in the prostate;
  • blood test.Prostatic antigen levels are checked.Tests show signs of inflammation;
  • Ultrasound of the genitourinary system.It is prescribed when the above tests are not enough to make an accurate diagnosis.Prostate ultrasound is best performed transanally (transrectal approach).

In addition, doctors sometimes analyze prostate secretions.To get it, the gland is massaged.

Tests may be ordered for various venereal infections that cause prostatitis.

Professional diagnosis will allow you to prescribe the correct treatment for prostatitis in men.

Treatment

If prostatitis is caused by bacteria, the doctor prescribes:

  • Antibiotics.Their type depends on the bacteria identified.You will have to take the medicine for a month and a half.If symptoms are very severe, antibiotics will be given intravenously immediately.
  • Alpha blockers.The medicine relaxes the bladder muscles where the prostate connects to it.Reduce pain when urinating.
  • Healthy and unhealthy prostate
  • Analgesic- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

You cannot self-prescribe medication.Only a doctor determines how to treat prostatitis.

prevent

To prevent prostatitis:

  • Take a warm bath on site;
  • Apply a hot compress to the lower abdomen or back;
  • stop drinking alcohol, caffeine, foods that increase acidity (spicy, salty);
  • We drink a lot of liquids (no sugar).In this way we will wash the genitourinary system;Bacteria will not have time to multiply;
  • Let's try not to ride a bike for a long time, not to sit for a long time;
  • don't forget to clean the penis and perineum;
  • we use contraceptives;
  • We play sports.Simple cardiovascular exercises will be quite enough - start jogging, swim in the pool, do a light warm-up.

Preventing prostatitis should become part of your lifestyle.Simple ways to protect your body.
